State of US car wrap shops 2026

We crawled 17,347 vehicle-services businesses in August 2026 and classified the 5,449 US wrap, tint and paint-protection shops among them from their own websites. Of the 4,833 sites that answered, 31 carried a wrap visualizer — 0.6%, one shop in 156. Among the 2,240 shops that actually sell wraps, 26 did: one in 86.

Finding 1

Almost no wrap shop lets you see the wrap

A colour-change wrap is a $2,500–$6,000 purchase that is entirely visual, and the buyer is normally asked to commit to it from a swatch book. So the obvious question is how many shops answer that on their own site. The answer is 31 of 4,833.

Narrow it to the 2,240 businesses whose sites make clear they sell wraps and the rate roughly doubles — 26 shops, 1.2% — which still means 85 wrap shops out of every 86 ask a buyer to imagine it. The 31 that do have one run 29 websites between them, because two are multi-location businesses sharing a single site.

We counted a visualizer only when the tool was on the shop’s own site. Mocking a car up by hand in Photoshop, or posting other people’s wrapped cars to Instagram, does not count — neither is available to the buyer at 11pm on a Sunday, three weeks before he books anything, which is when most of this shopping happens.

Finding 2

Wrap, tint, or neither

“Wrap shop” is a loose label. Sorted by what each site says about itself, 2,240 of 5,449 shops sell wraps — 41.1% — and only 24.4% lead with wraps as the core trade. Window tint alone accounts for 1,241 shops. Wrap-to-tint runs 1.8 to 1.

The class is what the website claims, not what the sign outside says. A business called “City Wraps” whose site only sells tint is counted as tint.

Colour change specifically: 1,441 of the 4,833 readable sites mention it — 29.8%. Among wrap shops, 58.4% (1,308 of 2,240). The remaining wrap shops are fleet, signage and commercial-graphics work.

Finding 3

The shop window is in worse shape than the shop

Every business in this set listed a website. 616 of them — 11.3%, about one in nine — returned an error, timed out or blocked us when we went to read it. Another 157 list a Facebook page, an Instagram profile or a booking link in place of a site.

Instagram is close to universal by comparison: 3,495 shops (64.1%) have an account. The pattern across the set is a shop that posts finished cars daily and treats its website as a business card.

Finding 4

Star ratings can’t separate these shops

The median shop is a 4.9 on 74 reviews. 45.6% sit at a flat 5.0 and 80.80000000000001% are at 4.8 or better, so a buyer comparing three local shops is choosing between three near-identical scores. Review volume separates them a little better: the median shop has 74, the top tenth has 345 or more, and the single most-reviewed shop in the set has 7,766.

Finding 5

Where the shops are

California, Texas and Florida hold 1,684 of the 5,449 shops between them — 31% of the set in three states. Wrap share moves too: 51.5% of California shops sell wraps against 33.9% in Ohio.

Coverage follows metro areas, so 7 states with no covered metro (Alaska, Maine, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont, Wyoming) do not appear at all. Their shops exist; this crawl did not reach them.

How this was made

Methodology

17,347 vehicle-services businesses worldwide were crawled in August 2026. This report covers only the US wrap, tint, PPF and sign shops from that crawl.

Each shop’s own website was fetched and up to three service pages were scored for wrap, tint and PPF language. The class is what the site says about itself, not what the business name implies.

What was excluded, and why

Only aggregate counts are published. No shop name, address, phone number, email or website appears in this dataset or on this page.

Using these figures

Quote any number on this page with a link back to it. The counting rules above are the whole method — if a figure here disagrees with one somewhere else, it is almost always because the other source counted businesses this crawl never reached, or counted a wrap shop by its name rather than by what its site sells.

Questions, answered

How many car wrap shops are there in the US?

This report classifies 5,449 US shops that wrap, tint or protect vehicles, drawn from 17,347 businesses crawled worldwide in August 2026. 2,240 of them — 41.1% — sell wraps. That is a large sample across 44 states and 62 metro areas, not a census: coverage follows metro areas, so 7 states with no covered metro are absent.

How many wrap shops let customers see a wrap before buying?

31 of the 4,833 shop websites we could read carried any kind of wrap visualizer — 0.6%, or one shop in 156. Narrowed to shops that actually sell wraps it is 26 of 2,240, one in 86.

Are there more wrap shops or tint shops in the US?

Wrap shops, but not by as much as the category’s noise suggests. 2,240 shops sell wraps and 1,241 do window tint and nothing else — a ratio of 1.8 to 1. Tint is the volume trade; wraps are the high-ticket one.

What rating does a typical US wrap shop have?

The median is 4.9 stars on 74 public reviews. Ratings are compressed at the top — 45.6% of shops sit at a flat 5.0 and only 1.2% are below 4.0 — which makes star ratings close to useless for telling two shops apart.
